    SINGAPORE TODAY (TUESDAY) AGREED WITH MALAYSIA THAT TALKS ABOUT BE HELD IN MAY WITH BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND TO WORK OUT THE DEFENCE OF SOUTH EAST ASIA AFTER THE ACCELERATED BRITISH FORCES WITHDRAWAL IN 1971. A JOINT COMMUNIQUE, ISSUED AFTER TALKS BETWEEN MALAYSIA'S DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK, AND SINGAPORE'S FINANCE MINISTER, DR. GOH KENG SWEE, SAID BOTH COUNTRIES WOULD CONTINUE TO WORK CLOSELY IN DEFENCE MATTERS. YESTERDAY TUN RAZAK CALLED ON SINGAPORE PRIME MINISTER LEE KUAN YEW.

    ALSO PRESENT AT YESTERDAY'S MEETING WERE SINGAPORE DEFENCE MINISTER, MR. LIM KIM SAN, AND MALAYSIA'S HIGH COMMISSIONER TO SINGAPORE, TAN SRI JAMAL BIN ABDUL LATIF.

    AT TODAY'S TALKS IT WAS AGREED THAT THE PROPOSED FIVE-NATION TALKS SHOULD BE HELD IN KUALA LUMPUR IN THE SECOND PART OF MAY AT MINISTERIAL LEVEL.

    THE COMMUNIQUE SAID MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE RE-AFFIRMED THE NEED FOR CLOSE DEFENCE CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THEM TO ENSURE THEIR FUTURE SECURITY.
