The U.S. Secretary of State, Mr William Rogers, held talks in New York yesterday (Monday) with the Soviet Foreign Minister, Mr Andrei Gromyko. The meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, included discussions on the Middle-East situation and the two countries' views on Europe.
After the meeting, Mr Rogers announced that president Nixon will hold talks on Thursday with the Soviet Foreign Minister. He said the meeting with President Nixon was requested by Mr Gromyko.
Officials said later that Monday's meeting had produced no agreement on the Middle-East but possibly had improved the climate and climate and removed some existing misunderstandings.
