  • Description

Art treasures on loan from 14 countries are on view at the world famous Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the museum.

Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, opening the anniversary exhibition on June 28, showed special interest in a section devoted to the medieval art of the Northern Netherlands.

Paintings that had never before been seen in Holland were on view. Some were on loan from tiny and austere churches in Norway, others from the immense richness of the Vatican.

The exhibition included sculptures, etchings, illuminated books and art objects.

The exhibits were made available from museums and private collections in Canada, Belgium, the United States, Denmark, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Czechoslovakia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the Vatican and Holland.
