    Indian President, Varahghiri Venkata Giri met Rumanian President Nicolas Ceausescu for talks in Bucharest on Friday (October 5th).

    The official talks were held in the palace of the Council of State of the Socialist Republic of Rumania, and centred on the development of bi-lateral relations between the two countries.

    In a statement after the talks, the two heads of state said they were satisfied with the evolution of rapport between their countries. In the interests of their peoples, they hoped to intensify political, economic, technical, scientific and cultural relations. They also touched on problems of common interest in the international political sphere.

    President Ceausescu, who's also the Secretary-General of Rumania's Communist Party, has initiated a foreign policy distinct from Rumania's Communist Bloc neighbours. In a number of independent foreign policy moves, he has fostered relations with western trading partners in the search for economic development in Rumania.

    SYNOPSIS: The Palace of the Council of State in Bucharest was the venue for official talks on Friday between Rumanian President Nicolas Ceausescu and President Varahghiri Venkata Giri, of India.

    President Ceausescu's meeting with President Giri was the latest in a series of talks the Rumanian President has held with leaders of non-communist countries.

    The two heads of state said they were satisfied with the evolution of repport??? between their countries. In the interests of their peoples, and in the cause of world peace, they hoped to expand their relations, particularly in the economic sphere.

    The talks also touched on problems of common interest in the international political arena. President Ceausescu has initiated a foreign policy distinct from Rumania's Communist Bloc neighbour. He has fostered relations with a number of western countries in the search for economic development in Rumania, while strengthening his country's communist ideology.
