    Ten West African countries concluded their four-day seminar on mass media at the University of Ghana at Legon on Thursday (22 July). The seminar was organised by the Africa Committee of International Association for Cultural Freedom and the Institute of Adult Education at the University of Ghana.

    Delegates from Ghana, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Upper Volta, Togo, Dahomey, Gambia, Ivory Coast, and Liberia WERE IN ATTENDANCE.

    The four-day seminar dealt with the techniques and potential of the mass media that, if properly utilised, could help foster a strong unity among the diverse cultures of West Africa.

    SYNOPSIS: Delegates from ten West African countries concluded a four-day seminar on mass media at the University of Ghana at Legon on Thursday. Speakers urged the delegates to seek solutions to the problems plaguing mass communication in West Africa.

    The delegates included journalist broadcasters, and government public relations personnel from Dahomey, Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia Niger, Senegal, Togo, Upper Volta and Sierra Leone. One of the main points of discussion involved press freedom in the participating countries.

    On the third day of the seminar, delegates from Senegal, Liberia, and Gambia especially addressed the seminar. They reported that there is now press freedom in their countries, and that the press could now freely criticise or comment on government activities
