Background: A new, and unusual, play has made its world debut in Copenhagen. Entitled "The Life and Time of Joseph Stalin", it runs for 12 hours. The play was written by Robert Wilson from the United States. It has a cast of 50; 15 actors from the United States, and 35 from Denmark, Not all 50 are on stage all the time, but there have been performances when the cast might have outnumbered the audience, had they all been on stage.
Few people have been able to spare the time to sit through the long play. However, on the first night, the theatre was packed, as the tickets were free. Young people turning up at Copenhagen's New Theatre to see the play have come well-equipped with sleeping bags and plenty of beer.
