Background: Strong security measures have been imposed in San sebastian following the Kidnapping on Tuesday of the West German Consul, Herr Eugen Beihl. The kidnapping is reported to have been carried out by extremist Basque nationalists in an attempt to assist a number of their companions now being tried before a court martial on charges of attempted murder.
Herr Beihl was kidnapped from the garage of his residence in San Sebastian.
Police reinforcements are now guarding the house as inquiries into the kidnapping continue. The kidnapping as witnessed by the caretaker of the consulate building, who says she saw Herr Beihl driven away in a car containing a number of men.
At the frontier border guards are carrying out intensive searching on all vehicles leaving Spain as a precaution against Herr Beihl being taken out of the country.
