Background: In less than a fortnight (11 July) the Miss. Universe beauty contest will be held in Hong Kong.
SYNOPSIS: Many of the entrants have already arrived and have been busy sightseeing and shopping in the city known as the Pearl of the East. On most of their trips they've been accompanied by guards, and, of course, the inevitable convoy of avid photographers. The shopping spree has not only been fun for the girls, but also for the shop-keepers and large crowds of admirers who followed them around.
Hong Kong is known throughout the world as a shopper's paradise - a marketplace for both exotic wares and everyday necessities. Whatever the shops had to offer the girls were keen to see it, try it and in many cases buy it. Some of them even tried their hand at the oriental pass-time of bargaining, and in return for a smile many of the shopkeepers didn't need much encouragement to drop their prices. Before the final judging for the Miss. Universe title the girls will make many television appearances - which should help the judges to decide who is the most beautiful woman in the universe.
