  • Description

Burmese Prime Minister, Mr. U Nu, and his wife, arrived by train in New Delhi Nov 11 on a 10-day visit to India. A cheering crowd - including many Burmese children - were at the station to see Indian Premier Nehru extend a warm welcome to his guests.

The following day, Mr. U Nu - in Delhi to confer with Mr. Nehru on India's border disputes with China - visited Rajghat to lay a wreath at the tomb of Mahatma Ghandi.

Later, the Burmese Premier was received for lunch at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Prasad.

At talks with Mr. Nehru Nov 12/13, Premier U Nu expressed his belief that Chinese Prime Minister Chou En-lai is sincerely concerned to settle the border dispute with India. Mr. Nehru told a private meeting of Congress, (Government) Party members of Parliament Nov 13 that Mr. U Nu's visit was not a mediation mission to try to settle the Sino-Indian dispute.
