Questions about the most pressing health problems facing Africa were answered by Dr. Alfred Quenum, African Regional Director of the World Health Organisation, at a news conference in Brazzaville on Tuesday (August 21).
Dr. Quenum was speaking on the eve of the 23rd session of WHO's regional committee. Among the most important questions asked were fears of epedemies resulting from the current drought in countries bordering the Sahara. Dr. Quenum assured newsmen that his Organisation is currently vigilant throughout the region in its efforts to avert a catastrophe.
Asked why some African countries were still not members of WHO, Dr. Quenum replied that budgetary problems seemed the principal reason. But the added that non-member countries still continued to benefit from the Organisation's aid.
