Background: The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived this afternoon at Fairbairn Air base in Canberra after a three-hour flight in a Boeing Jet from Christchurch, New Zealand.As the jet taxied in, the Queen's personal standard for her Australian tour was fluttering on the nose.The official welcoming party greeted Her Majesty as, in the background, a salute of 21 guns began to fire.The Governor General, Lord de L'Isle welcomed Her Majesty on behalf of the Australian people.The Prime Minister, Mr.Menzies, and Dame Pattie Menzies were next to greet the Royal guests.Dame Pattie passed her umbrella to the Queen as Her Majesty stepped through the rain to the saluting dais.The bad weather caused the cancellation of an Airforce fly-past.The Queen was wearing a dress and short jacket of white tussore with a blue sash.Her hat was of white tulle with blue ribbon.The R.A.A.F.provided the guard-of-honour.
