Background: The Palestine Liberation Organisation leader, Yasser Arafat, has been in Iraq for talks with government officials on the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border dispute. Un Wednesday (March 28) he was received for talks by Vice-President Saddam Hussein, but the details of their discussion were not publicly revealed. Arafat, Chairman of the P.L.O's Executive Committee, flew back to Beirut in Lebanon on Saturday (March 31) following a similar visit to Kuwait.
SYNOPSIS: The leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, Yasser Arafat, met Iraq's Vice-President Saddam Hussein, for talks last week on the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border dispute. The row, over the two countries' ill-defined common border, had reached a climax the previous week when four people were killed in a clash on the frontier. Both sides blamed the other for starting the fight.
Details of the discussions between Hussein and Arafat were not publicly revealed. Arafat, who is Chairman of the PLO's executive Committee, also held similar talks in Kuwait before flying back to Beirut, in Lebanon, on Saturday.
