Background: Visnews filmed physical aspects of Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city, celebrating its 405th birthday, Jan 25.
Bright and booming Sao Paulo can look back the day of its founding, Jan 25 1554, by two Jesuit priests. From a tiny schoolhouse for Indian children the settlement has grown to its 20th century role as an industrial centre, and one of the world's fastest-growing cities-rate of construction-one house or building completed every 20 minutes.
Such development gives rise to organizational problems connected with transport, public services, administration, police. Sao Paulo's present population is 3 1/2M.
The city's four-lane traffic way amazes the visitor as much as the fast-rising buildings at almost every glance of the eye. One of them, the Rockefeller Centre, is an enormous building in its fifth year of construction. Another is the city's most outstanding apartment building in form and colour.
