NKOMO: "The enemy aircraft approached from the south in the first encounter. Two bombers were downed. When the next two bombers attempted to destroy the wreckage of the first two, they were also brought down. The fifth aircraft shots down was a spotter plane. It is the practice of the enemy airforce to bomb all wreckages of its planes shot down in order to destroy evidence, mostly that of origin. From the evidence displayed for you it is clear that the Rhodesian regime is getting military equipment for its murderous attack on Zimbabwe refugee camps in Zambia and Mozambique from NATO countries and South Africa. (Indistinct) something of many victorious victories that our fighters are registering in the advancing of the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe".

Background: Nationalist leader and head of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU) Joshua Nkomo has claimed his men have shot down five Rhodesian jets, when they attacked a military camp southeast of Lusaka on Friday (November 3). On Tuesday (November 7) he displayed a heap of twisted and scorched metal, said to be the wreckage of an aircraft, captured automatic, rifles, bloodstained uniforms and parachutes and a lone steel helmet with the name McCormack written across it. He continues to reject western plans for an all-party conference and denounced the present Government of Rhodesia as a band of savages.
