    Albanian Communist leader Enver Hoxha opened his ruling Party of Labour's Seventh congress in Tirana on Monday (1 November) and accused former senior officials of conspiring with foreign enemies to overcome the government.

    SYNOPSIS: Thousands of people lined the streets of the capital to see the capital to see the leaders of the tiny Balkan socialist state on their way to the Congress which is held every five years.

    Members of Marxist and Leninist parties rom several countries joined Albanians at the conference. Enver Hoxha, a hard-line Stalinist who has ruled since leaders onto the rostrum. Mr. Hoxha outlined the country's progress during the years since the last Congress. It was during his marathon speech when he referred to the dismissed senior officials. He said the three officials. He said the three officials and five others had been "thrown onto the garbage dump". Observers quoted y Reuters say it is likely they have been executed. Among them was former Defence Minister Beqir Balluku.

    Another of the speakers was veteran Communist in the party Miha Lako who declared the Congress open.

    In a speech the following day Mr. Hoxha described the United States and the Soviet Union as the most dangerous imperialist powers in history. But he swore continued friendship with China but made no reference to the new Chinese Party chairman Hua Kho-Feng. The Albanian leader also denounced NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), the Common Market (European Economic Community) and the integration of western Europe, all of which are supported by China as counter-weights to Moscow.
