Background: ON FRIDAY' BRITAIN'S ROYAL AIRCRAFT ESTABLISHMENT AT BEDFORD WILL HOLD ANOTHER OF ITS 'OPEN DAYS'. ON SHOW WILL BE THE ESTABLISHMENT'S FINEST RANGE OF MODERN AERONAUTICAL EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES FOR RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING WORK.

SIGHTSEERS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE SHAPE OF AIRCRAFT TO COME. IN ONE PART OF THE STATION THERE ARE MODELS IN LABORATORIES AND HANGARS AS WELL AS DEMONSTRATIONS IN FLIGHT. EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ARE ALSO AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION ON THE GROUND.

THE BLIND LANDING EXPERIMENTAL UNIT COVERS THE WHOLE RANGE OF BAD WEATHER LANDING AIDS. A WORKING MODEL SHOWS THE FULL SEQUENCE OF EVENTS THAT OCCUR DURING AN AUTOMATIC LANDING. EACH PHASE IS ACCOMPANIED BY A TAPE-RECORDED COMMENTARY.

MODELS OF THE "CONCORD" - THE SUPERSONIC JET AIRLINER NOW BEING BUILT BY BRITAIN AND FRANCE - WILL BE A HIGHLIGHT OF THE SHOW. THE RACE TO PRODUCE THE WORLD'S FIRST SUPERSONIC AIRLINER WAS REPORTED TO HAVE SWUNG IN FAVOUR OF THE CONCORD TEAM LAST MONTH. AMERICAN PLANS TO PRODUCE AN AIRLINER TO OUTCLASS THE CONCORD HAVE HAD A SETBACK. DESIGNS PUT FORWARD BY SEVERAL US AIRCRAFT FIRMS HAVE BEEN TURNED DOWN BY THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT BE ECONOMIC TO OPERATE.

VISITORS WILL ALSO SEE THE 'S.B.5' IN ACTION - A DELTA-WING AIRCRAFT BEING USED FOR 'CONCORD TESTS'.
