This film was taken as the project team was preparing to leave Lake Bonney. The Bluebird and all equipment was to be loaded and transported to Adelaide where it would be stored until Campbell had decided on another lake for the speed attempt. At this stage there was no indication of any further trial runs.
But later when Campbell and the chief mechanic Mr Leo Villa made a final inspection of the Lake they believed conditions were ideal. The project manager Mr. Ferrett was told of the clam water by crew members who'd been shifting a marker buoy.
At this time a decision was made to give Bluebird a final chance. But this afternoons trials were not successful. Although Campbell said the conditions were the best he'd encountered on Lake Bonney a swell was still causing trouble. A report from the Lake this evening said it was likely that Campbell and his time keepers would leave for Melbourne tomorrow to begin an inspection of lakes in Victoria and Tasmania.
