    The foreign ministers of Somalia and Ethiopia have been meeting to discuss the border war being fought between the two countries. The meeting was set up in Gabon by the Organisation of African Unity.

    SYNOPSIS: Somalia's Foreign Minister Abdirahman Jama Barre passed through Nairobi on Thursday (4 August) on his way to meeting in Liberville, the capital of Gabon. Mr Barre was due to meet up there with his opposite number from Ethiopia, Feleka Gedle-Ghiorgis. In 1973, the OAU established an eight-nation 'good officers' group designed to sort out differences between member countries. It was expected that Ethiopia would call for an emergency meeting of OAU foreign ministers to discuss the desert violence along the border.

    Ethiopia was blamed the war on Somali armed aggression but the Somali's claim that their forces are not involved. They say the fighting is being done by a group called the Western Somali government officials said their foreign minister would recommend that the OAU should contact the Liberation Front directly.
