  • Description

The Germany Democratic Republic pledge its full support for the anti-apartheid movement at a conference organised for the United Nations Anti-Apartheid Committee in East Berlin on Saturday (25 May).

Addressing the conference, Mr. Hermann Axen -- a member of the East German Politburo -- described South Africa as "an unholy alliance of neo-colonialism and a threat to world peace".

The Anti-Apartheid Committee is visiting East Germany as part of its tour through Europe to organise and encourage support for stronger international action against South Africa. It has already visited Dublin and Rome. It is going on to Geneva -- its last stop.
