  • Description

In mid-July 1961 the first unit of a three-building motel - the first true motel accommodations on Manhattan - will be open to receive the public.

"Motel City" is located 700 feet from the Lincoln Tunnel, one of the major thoroughfares into the island of Manhattan, 100 ft. from the Westside Airlines Terminal and newer most of the important ship-docking piers.

All rooms in the motel face inward to landscaped plazas, completely shutting out the city and the noise of the city. There will be 468 rooms in the completed units, a swimming pool, ice-skating rink and a play yard for children. All parking of cars will be inside, at street level.

Services available will be a restaurant, cocktail lounge, travel agency and free ticket, reservation and sightseeing service, all on the premises.

Single rooms will cost from $14 to $18 a night.
