  • Description

An 11-year-old English schoolboy has the power to bend metal by the light touch of his fingers. Young Russell Jennings, who lives in Bromley near London, only discovered his extraordinary powers after watching Israeli Uri Geller performing similar metal-bending feats on television.

Visnews cameraman Bill McConville and reporter Niree Creed spent several hours at Russell's home, watching and filming as he put his strange ability to work. The large steel desert spoon, seen in this coverage, in fact took Russell seven minutes to bend at right-angles. Obviously, it was impossible to show the entire seven minutes, accomplished entirely by gently stroking the neck of the spoon, but both cameraman and reporter vouched to the genuineness of the demonstration. And it later proved difficult for a grown man to bend the same spoon, using all his force.

Practically the entire Jennings household took to caressing the cutlery after watching Uri Geller's television appearance. There was general surprise when young Russell started coaxing forks and spoons from their natural shape.

Russell himself can't explain the phenomenon. He says he doesn't have to concentrate particularly hard. Noise and activity around him can actually help the process. Now, besides appearing on television himself, Russell has been offered a contract with a modelling agency, and is constantly being bribed with sweets and chocolate by schoolfriends who want to see him exercise his powers. He was trying to catch up on some homework when the Visnews team called.
