    Lebanese Prime Minister Saeb Salam and Arab League General Secretary Mahm Mahmoud Riad met in Beirut on Tuesday (Sept 19) to discuss the situation created by Israeli raids on Lebanese villages said to be the bases of Palestinian guerrillas.

    After the mooting, Prime Minister Salam spoke briefly to reporters, saying:
    The meeting was part of an intensive diplomatic drive for support for the arab cause in the latest Middle East crisis with Israel. Egypt's Foreign Minsiter Dr Mohammed Hassan El-Zayyat, is currently in Brussels, after holding high level talks in Rome and London. Lebanon's Foreign Minister Khalil Abu Hamad is visiting Paris and London before attending the United Nations General Assembly.

    On the same day as the Salam-Riad talks, emotional scenes as nineteen Palestinian commandos killed in the border clashes with Israel were buried in Damascus. About 50,000 people were estimated to have attended the two-mile (3-kilometre) funeral precision and burial ceremony. The bodies were carried in Lebanese Rod Cross and Palestinian Red Crescent vehicles preceded by a number of Lebanese Deputies and leaders of various political parties and organisations.

    SYNOPSIS: Emotional scenes in Damascus on Tuesday, as fifty thousand people filed through the streets in a two-mile long funeral procession for nineteen Palestinian commandos.

    The dead men had bene killed during recent Israeli raids on Lebanese border villages, which Israel claims are bases for guerrilla stacks on her territory.

    The raids in which the Palestinians died are reported to be part of Israel's increased anti-guerrilla warfare, following the Munich killings of eleven Israeli Olympic athletes.

    As the Palestinians buried their dead - Beirut saw the arrival of arab League Secretary General Mahmoud Riad at the Doha residence, for talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Saeb Salam. The talks - to discuss the Israeli raids - are part of increased international Arab diplomatic activity to foment sympathy for their cause, after the meeting, Prime Minister Salam spoke briefly to reporters:
