SYNOPSIS: A top-level military delegation from the People's Republic of China held talks recently in Bucharest with a Rumanian team headed by President Nicholai Ceausescu. The delegation, which earlier in August paid a weeks' friendship visit to nearby Albania, also spent some time inspecting Rumanian defence and military systems and industrial establishments.
The delegation was led by Li Teh Sheng, an alternate member of the ruling Chinese politburo and chief of the Chinese Army's political department. Last year, several Chinese military groups also visited Rumania for similar tours, and the two countries signed a long-term economic and technical co-operation agreement - or which details have not been disclosed. The Rumanian Government has said, however, that it is trying to 'diversify' its military equipment. Normally,it relies on Soviet Union Warsaw Pact Depots for such equipment.
