Palam Airport, New Delhi, was the scene of the arrival of the United States Export-Import Bank Mission led by Mr. H. Arey, Director of the Bank.
The party was received by Indian officials of the Finance departments. Mr. Krishinamoorthy, Mr. Srivasthava, and Mr. Jagannathan. Also present in the welcoming party were officials of the Indian Government and United States Embassy in India.
The visit of the U.S. Mission attains a wider significance in the light of the recession at home and the ever-increasing American unemployment which now stands at some five million. President Eisenhower, and his Administration, have already stated the intention of instituting "pump-priming" schemes to alleviate the position.
One sure way of overcoming the recession - at least, in part - would be the boosting of overseas trans; and the mission to India might play some part in achieving this.
