The ruling Democratic Party of the Ivory Coast has held its fifth annual Congress in Abidjan. On Friday the Congress was addressed by President Felix Houphouet Boigny who has been nominated as sole candidate for the presidential elections on November 29.
The party congress, as well as adopting President Houphouet-Boigny as sole candidate, also re-affirmed its belief in the one-party system and voted to expand the work of the executive of the party.
In his address to the party gathering, President Houphouet-Boigny appealed to all African states not to sacrifice African friendships for foreign interests.
