  • Description

On Day Three of his four-day state visit to Nepal, VISNEWS filmed (June 13) Indian Premier "nehru at the small township of Bhaktapur, near Katmandu, where he received an enthusiastic civic reception before addressing the people.

Wearing a Black Nepalese cap, premier Nehru mounted the decorated rostrum. Hundreds of people, small children waving flags, musicians and dancers cheered their greeting. Then from the rostrum with the temples and old Palace in the background, the Indian leader spoke.

Premier Nehru, who arrived in Katmandu June 11 at the invitation of King Mahendra, had several discussions with the King and Nepalese leaders before returning to Delhi. Main purpose of the visit: Tibet Nepal's next door neighbour. Ruled by the only living Hindu monarch, and once considered to be invulnerable from land attack because of the Himalayas, Nepal now lies only a few air minutes from the Chinese Communist Forces occupying Tibet. Further Indian economic aid was also discussed.
