    TRANSCRIPT:

"Chelsea kick off with Baldwin, number 10, in palace of the injured Ian Hutchinson, and West Ham too were missing one of their forwards... Jeff Hurst the England striker, out injured.

The first half very much belonged to Chelsea, and they forced a succession of corners. One taken on the right by Charlie Cooke was fielded very cleanly by Bobbie Fergusson the West Ham goalkeeper. Number 9 Peter Osgood of Chelsea was to make his mark on the match.

Now John Boyle of Chelsea down the right..... a chance here and West Ham are thankful to concede yet another corner. From this Tommy Baldwin had another opportunity. His header wasn't too far past the posts. But he really should have done better a few minutes later when Osgood gave him a great chance. No trouble to Fergusson.

But after 17 minutes or so Chelsea scored. The move began when number 7 (indistinct) was challenged by number 3 Harris. From his clearance Osgood raced away. A splendidly taken goal by Peter Osgood.... one-nil to Chelsea, and four minutes later Osgood got his second.

Perhaps West Ham could have saved that one but nevertheless it counted. Two-nil.... to Chelsea.

Five minutes from the end though, West Ham pulled one back. The corner came out to Lampard. Bonnetti was beaten by a tremendous shot. A great goal by Lampard who later had to leave the field injured.

Before half-time Weller hit the crossbar, but despite substitutions and near-misses and the disallowed foal or two, the final score was Chelsea-2, West Ham - 1.

Background: Chelsea, playing on their home ground at Stamford Bridge, pitted their skills against West Ham in a derby fixture in London on Saturday (19th December). Peter Osgood found form again for Chelsea to score twice in four minutes, and West Ham's Frank Lampard closed the margin with a fine goal in the 41st minute of the first half. The final score was 2-1 to Chelsea.

Although taking the initiative for most of the game, Chelsea had their share of good fortune as both Osgood's goals arose from lucky situations. The first came as Harries stuck out his foot to halt a dribbling rush by Ayris. The ball rebounded 35 yards to the feet of Peter Osgood who had simply to confront and beat the keeper. The second stroke of good luck for Chelsea occurred after they had taken a corner. After a hectic scramble in the goalmouth the ball dropped at the feet of Osgood who took advantage of an unsighted keeper.

Five minutes before the end of the first half West Ham rallied well to force a corner on the Chelsea goal-line. A shrewd signal to Frank Lampard by West Ham (and England) skipper Bobby Moore saw Lampard move clear of the defenders, and hammer home a low 35-yard shot from the cross. Lampard later left the field injured.

As a result of the game Chelsea has 29 League points, and West Ham.....well down the table.....15
