Background: Aug 12, off the Dutch island of Texel, a Royal Netherlands Navy fire-fighting vessel battled a fierce blaze aboard the 5,000 ton Argentine ship, "Rio Diamante". A life-boat stood by.

The cargo vessel, carrying rubber and nine tons of explosives, caught fire at 8 a.m. She radioed for help after her 42-man crew failed to get the fire under control.
