    MAJOR EARL ESCOLES ACTED AS OFFICIAL ADVISER ON THE OPERATION OVER 13 SQUARE MILES OF SWAMPY RICE FIELDS, ABOUT 150 MILES SOUTH OF SAIGON. FOUR COMPANIES OF CIVIL GUARDS SUPPORTED BY ARMOURED CARS ADVANCED OVER THIS DIFFICULT TERRAIN. AT TIMES IT WAS NECESSARY TO USE BOATS TO CROSS RIVERS AND TO ENTER THE JUNGLE.

    THE PREVIOUS DAY, ABOUT A HUNDRED VIET CONG GUERILLAS WERE KILLED AND 90 CAPTURED WHEN AMERICAN HELICOPTERS FERRIED A STRONG FORCE OF GOVERNMENT TROOPS INTO AN AREA NEAR MYTHE, 50 MILES SOUTH OF SAIGON, TO SURROUND A TERRORIST FORCE.
