    Rumanian President Nicolae Ceausescu left Hanoi, North Vietnam yesterday (19 June) at the end of the third leg of his far east tour. It is thought that the President and his delegation my visit Mongolia before returning home.

    Previously, President Ceausescu visited the People's Republic of China and North Vietnam. During the visit to Peking, Rumania appealed to China to normalise its relations with the western countries. This was seen as a further expression of Rumania's determination to play an independent role in international affairs in the face of pressure from the Soviet Union.

    During the week-long visit to North Korea (9-16 June), President Ceausescu had talks with the North Korean Premier, Kim il Sung, in Pyongyang. This film, showing the two leaders having discussions, was made available to VISNEWS by Rumanian Television.

    SYNOPSIS: Following an eight-day visit to the People's Republic of China, Rumanian President Nicolae Ceausescu travelled to North Korea. Pyongyang was the second leg of his far east tour, which would also include North Vietnam and possible Mongolia.

    North Korean Premier, Kim Il Sung, greeted the Rumanian President. Premier Kim has been invited to visit Rumania, but no date for the visit has yet been fixed.

    The two leaders had several rounds of talks, but the details were not released. The discussions were expected to range from world issues to bilateral relations, which have been strengthened, following successive visits by official Rumanian missions to North Korea, over the past year.

    President Ceausescu told the North Korean leader that his country was developing its relations with all states to reduce world tension and consolidate peace. Premier Kim said the Rumanian President's visit to his country helped cement unity among socialist countries and the international communist movement.
