  • Description

Britain's annual International Boat Show, boasting the best in boating, opened in London on Wednesday (1 January).

More than 700 boats from Britain and overseas were exhibited at the show which marked the 150th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

One of the outstanding and more expensive boats was a new Bertram 42 motor yacht which costs nearly GBP 70,000 sterling (about 161,000 US dollars).

A range of budget boats and do-it-yourself dinghies were on display at the 400 stands which also offered a wide selection of engines, marine electronics, fixtures and fittings.

The central feature of the show, ironically, was a glimpse into the past -- a famous old Whitby rowing lifeboat -- the only one of its kind remaining. It was the main attraction at a "typical English village" exhibit in the heart of the show.

The show also featured North Sea oil exploration, shark-fishing simulators and boat-building demonstrations.
