  • Description

The United Arab Republic President Anwar Sadat, speaking at the Sixth Islamic Conference in Barrage, UAR, on Sunday re-stated his country's position on a Middle East peace settlement.

President Sadat had earlier made his position clear during a meeting with Mr. Donald Bergus. Chief of the U.S. interests section in Cairo, when the U.S. official delivered a message from President Nixon on the crisis.

President Sadat believes that this month, April, will see a settlement in the Middle East, either peacefully or by war. His offer stands to re-open the Suez Canal for navigation immediately after Israel's partial withdrawal from the easter bank of the waterway.
