    An 18-year-old Italian student succeeded in breaking the French domination of the Martini Kandahar Ski Meeting in the Spanish Pyrenees resort of La Tuca last weekend.

    French skiers had opened the event by winning both the men's and women's giant slaloms.

    But on Saturday (8 March) young Max Mandelli from Como in Northern Italy succeeded in breaking the French stranglehold when he won the men's slalom.

    Dany Iselin of France was in second place, nearly three seconds behind over the two runs.

    But the French success story continued in the women's slalom on Sunday, won Sunday, won by Marie-Helene Mounicq of Lourdes, with a time that was over two seconds better than Sara Provera of Italy, who was placed second.
