  • Description

The US dollar regained some of its value as international currency dealings began again on the foreign exchange markets on Monday. (March 19).

But dealing was reported to be light on the first day of market trading for more than two weeks. Dealers were said to be waiting to see the effect of the 14-nation monetary agreement reached in Paris last Friday. (March 16) The agreement involves the floating of all major currencies against the dollar.

The US currency was a little stronger in London and on the Commercial Exchange in Paris, against the floating Swiss franc and the newly-revalued West German mark.

But in Japan the US dollar did not do so well. The Bank of Japan had to sell dollars to push down the yen.
