  • Description

Stirling Moss driving a Cooper-Monaco, won the two-day International Car Race at Roskilde, Denmark, August 16 after battling against Australia's Jack Brabham, also in a Cooper Monaco, leader in this year's world championship table.

From the first heat Moss showed that he intended to win. Though Brabham held the lead for eight laps at one time, he could only finish third. Filling second place in the event was Britain's David Piper in a Lotus.

During one heat Arne Ditlevsen (Sweden), was involved in an accident with Bob Hicks (England). Both their cars slid round. Hicks clambered from his car and helped Ditlevsen - with a broken arm - off the track.

Though Moss's win is a new personal victory, the result does not count towards world championship points. Earlier this year Moss had similar victories - at Rouen and Auvergne where his friend Ivor Bueb was killed.

The Roskilde circuit is noted for its public safety arrangements, though Moss, after a trial run, said it could be a difficult one for drivers.
