  • Description

On Wednesday (23 August) Rumania celebrated the 28th anniversary of what Rumanian Television described during the week as the "yoke of fascism". Towards the end of the Second World war (23 August 1944) a coup d'etat supported by King Michael overthrew the dictatorship regime of General Ion Antonescu, and took Rumania into the war against Germany.

The anniversary was celebrated throughout Rumania on Wednesday but in the capital, Bucharest, a special parade of military personnel and workers took Place acres the city's Place de Aviateurs. It was reviewed by President Nicolae Ceausescu and leading government officials. This coverage was supplied by Rumanian TV.
