  • Description

As Congo refugees continued to fly into Brussels July 14, planes returning to the Congo were being loaded with food. With normal Congo life brought almost to a standstill, many areas are now faced with serious food shortages. In Coquilhatville - from which none of the 1,100 Whites have yet been repatriated - food supplies are estimated to be enough to last only one or two days..
Special planes have been hustled into service to fly our cargoes of rice, and other provisions, from Belgium. With Belgian troops in the Congo now numbering about 5,000 an uneasy peace prevails as the country waits tensely for the arrival of the UN force.
