Visnews May 25 interviewed President of the board of Trade, Sir. David Eccles, leader of the British trade mission to Moscow, on his return to London with a five year Anglo-Soviet agreement boosting trade between the two countries.
British purchases of Soviet goods will rise from GBP57M last year to about GBP80M. The agreement also provides new opportunities in consumer goods totalling about GBP2M each way during the first year.
Some Russian cars, toys, musical instruments, watches, cameras, wines and brandies will come to britain in exchange for British motor vehicles, clothes, textiles, shoes and sports goods.
The Russian cars will be shown for the first time at this year's London Motor Show, run by the Society of Motor Manufacturers. One may be a Moskvich - a small car about ten horse-power, another: the Volga, a larger family car of about 15 horse-power.
Sir David said the agreement was a good beginning and a sound move in international relations.
