  • Description

A westerly wind sprang up on Wednesday night (3.6.64.) at LAKE EYRE, in SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S far north, where the British driver, Donald CAMPBELL was preparing for an attempt on the World Land Speed Record on Thursday (4.6.64.).

CAMPBELL says he needs absolutely calm air to drive the Bluebird at high speeds.

An A. B. C. reporter at the lake says the wind was averaging eight knots, with gusts up to ten, last night (Wednesday) and a decision on Thursday's proposed attempt on the record would have to be deferred. A slight wind could blow Bluebird off course into the rough, with possibly disastrous results.
