    Some 100,000 people watched America's greatest horse race - the Kentucky Derby - filmed by Visnews on the Churchill Downs at Louisville May 2.

    The eighty-fifth of its kind, it was the hottest Derby Day on record. Seventeen three-years-olds were off on a bone-dry track. Prize money at stake: over 160,000 dollars. Pace: extremely fast.

    Coming into the home straight, their was a neck-and-neck struggle between Tomy Lee ridden by Willy Shoemaker and Sword Dancer with jockey Billy Boland. Accused of repeatedly bumping into his opponent, British-bred colt Tomy Lee best American Sword Dancer to the post by a short lead.

    Objections were waived and Tomy Lee was declared the winner of the 85th Kentucky Derby.
