  • Description

Three hundred students of Dankuk University, Seoul, South Korea, demonstrated outside the National Assembly May 31, demanding its immediate dissolution, and resignation of Acting President Huh Chung. They accused him of helping ex-President Syngman Rhee to leave Korea for Hawaii, May 29.

Since Dr. Rhee arrived in Hawaii, on an exit visa issued by President Chung, there have been several outbursts of criticism, although Chung saw no reason for preventing "this unfortunate old man" from leaving. If the government decided to press charges that Dr. Rhee had absconded with national funds, the USA would assist in his return from Hawaii. In any case, said Mr. Chung, his absence ensures that he cannot be restored "in violation of the spirit of the April revolution."
Nevertheless, student demonstrations have spread from Taegu, in South-eastern Korea, to the national capital Seoul.
