Background: On the second day of the Balkan Gymnastics Games in Greece on Sunday, (7 November) honours went to the Rumanian team.
SYNOPSIS: Men and women gymnasts from Greece, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, as well as from Rumania, took part in the competition, at the Palais des sports in Salonika.
The heroine of the day was the triple Olympic Gold medallist, Nadia Comaneci of Rumania. Although she was very nervous at first, she went on to give an excellent display in the floor exercise and scored a maximum ten points for her performance. The 15 year old athlete had given a mixed display during the games. She performed poorly on the asymmetric bars and the bean on the first day of the games but own the vault. However after this display on the final day she was applauded vigorously by about ten thousand sports fans who called for an encore.
Nowadays the sports seems to be attracting younger and younger competitors. From Yugoslavia a tiny girl of nine gave an exhibition of precision and timing that could be envied by those twice her age.
But it was Comaneci's day and she later won the vault event of the games with a score of nine point nine five.
Miss. Comaneci showed some of the form that won her the 3 gold medals and hearts of spectators at the Montreal Olympics this year.
