Background: A 3.3 LITRE WORKS FERRARI DRIVEN BY ITALIANS LUDOVICO SCARFIOTTI AND NINO VACCARELLA TODAY (SUNDAY) WON THE 621 MILES (1000 KMS) NUERBURGRING RACE BEFORE A RECORD CROWD OF 300 THOUSAND PEOPLE.

THE WINNING FERRARI WAS NEVER OUT OF THE FIRST THREE THROUGHOUT THE 44 LAP RACE AND IT LED FOR THE LAST 12 LAPS. ITS TIME FOR THE RACE WAS 7 HOURS 8 MINUTES AND 27 SECONDS AT AN AVERAGE SPEED 87.30 MILES AN HOUR (140.5 KMH).

FOR TWO-THIRDS OF THE DISTANCE FERRARIS LOOKED LIKE SWEEPING OFF ALL FIRST THREE PLACES. BUT IN THE 29TH LAP THE LEADING FERRARI, DRIVEN BY INNES IRELAND, OF BRITAIN, RAN OUT OF PETROL AFTER THE TANK HAD BEEN HOLED.

FERRARI FINALLY GAINED SECOND PLACE WITH THE TEAM PARKES, BRITAIN, AND JEAN GUICKET, OF FRANCE, WHILE THIRD WERE BEN PON, (HOLLAND) AND GERHARD KOCH, (GERMANY) IN A PORSCHE.

THERE WERE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS, ESPECIALLY AFTER RAIN HAD MADE SLIPPERY A DANGEROUS BEND AT THE EASTERN END OF THE TRICKY 14 MILE (22.8 KMS) COURSE. ALL THE DRIVERS, HOWEVER, ESCAPED UNHURT AND SEVERAL WERE ABLE TO PUSH THEIR CARS BACK ON TO THE TRACK AND DRIVE ON.
