  • Description

King Faisal of Saudi Arabia gave a dinner on Sunday (6 January) in honour of several moslem African Heads-of-State and the Lebanese Prime Minister who are in his country for the annual pilgrimage to Mecca (Haj).

The banquet was attended by President Jaafar El-Nimeiry of Sudan, Ugandan President Idi Amin, President Sangoule Lamizana of Upper Volta and Lebanese Prime Minister Takieddin Al-Solh. Earlier in the day, King Faisal had paid personal visits to both President Amin and President Nimeiry at the guest palace.

On Friday (4 January) the Saudi Arabian Press Agency reported that President Amin had called on King Faisal to "lead Moslems at this stage through which the Islamic nation is passing." The Ugandan leader added: "We have to struggle to leave for our young generation an honourable future and to rally round one leader -- King Faisal."
Several other Moslem Heads-of-State are expected in Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage.
