Background: VISNEWS was on hand Feb 25 as Michael Pissas returned in triumph to Nicosia. A convoy of cars two miles long formed at the airport and followed his drive to the Metaxas Square where 6,000 people waved flags and banners, and chaired him to the Trade Union Headquarters. Unarmed soldiers watched.
"I am optimistic about the agreement" said Pissas to the cheering crowd, which is the best possible one under the present circumstances because it rids the islands of the colonial yoke and gives the Government to the Cypriots".
Pissas, exiled Ethnarchy Councillor and leader of Cyprus right wing new trade Union, was arrested the day after Makario's deportation, detained, then exiled a year later.
