  • Description

VISNEWS filmed Feb 3 as a truck, loaded with a powerful boom spray on the property of Farmer O'Neill on Narrabri, spread a fine mist of poison over the hatching swarms of grasshoppers.

Grasshoppers in their millions are worrying farmers in the north west of New South Wales Australia, as they hatch out on the acres of lush green pastureland near Narrabri and Walgett and threaten to develop into a state-wide menace by the spring.

Farmers and Government agricultural experts are fighting the grasshopper plague on a large scale. The Narrabri Pastures Board has joined forces with local farmers in an extensive spraying drive to nip the plague in its nearly stages.

Landholders in the area are being given a quantity of poison - free; and throughout the week three spraying units pumped six hundred gallons of poison over the area to combat the hatching swarms.
