  • Description

President Ford met with key economic advisers on Saturday (28 December) in Vail, Colorado, to seek ways to deal with the worsening economic situation in the United States.

The conference was a follow-up to a day-long session of Friday (27 December), which concentrated on energy policy. The Saturday meeting was focused on ways to combat inflation while spurring the nation's sagging economy.

Participants in the conference would not comment in detail to newsmen, but a spokesman said that they all agreed that the United States economy would take a turn for the better during the second half of 1975. President Ford also predicted in a year-end interview that it would be fully recovered and out of the present slump conditions by 1976.

President Ford is combining a ski-ing holiday with his family with this current series of talks and was reported to be in good humour when Saturday's meeting began. Among his advisers present at the talks were Chairman Arthur Burns of the Federal Reserves Board, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development James Lynn, Federal Energy Administrator Frank Zarb and Presidential Assistant William Seidman.
