  • Description

Libyan demonstrators attacked the United States Embassy and burned its flag in Tripoli on Friday (23 Feb) as the Arab World called for vengeance for the deaths of the people killed in the Sinai Desert aircraft crash disaster.

The damage at the Embassy was confined to broken window panes and the burned flag. In other small demonstrations against Israel in Tripoli, there was little damage.

The United States is often used in the Arab world as a symbol of friendship with Israel, and Egyptian officials say that the Israeli jets which shot the Libyan airliner on Wednesday (21 Feb) were United States-built Phantoms.
