    THE INDIAN DISTANCE SWIMMER MIHIR SEN YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) SWAN THE LENGTH OF THE BOSPHORUS. THE 17 MILES (27 KMS) TOOK FOUR HOURS.

    MR SEN DIVED INTO THE WATER AT GARIPCEKOY, AT THE BLACK SEA END OF THE BOSPHORUS. THREE BOATS ACCOMPANIED HIM. THREE HOURS OUT, HE ATE AN EGG AND SOME HONEY, AND THEN SWAM ON.

    AT THE FINISH IN THE SEA OF MARMARA, OFFICIALS GAVE HIM A BUNCH OF FLOWERS. "I AM THE ONLY MAN IN HISTORY WHO HAS CONQUERED THE SEVEN SEAS OF THE WORLD, "HE TOLD THEM. HE ESTIMATES HE HAS COVERED SOME 6,000 MILES (9600 KMS) TO DATE. BUT HE SAID THIS WAS HIS LAST DISTANCE SWIM. HE IS 36.

    EARLIER THIS MONTH HE SUCCESSFULLY TACKLED THE DARDANELLES STRAITS, LINKING THE AEGEAN AND THE SEA OF MARMARA. HE HAS ALSO SWUM THE STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR FROM SPAIN TO MOROCCO AND MADE THE INDIA-CEYLON CROSSING.
