  • Description

THIRTY STUDENTS GRADUATED FROM THE GHANA NAUTICAL COLLEGE AT NUNGUA, NEAR ACCRA, ON MONDAY (8 JULY). THE CADETS, FIVE OF WHOM WERE NIGERIANS, RECEIVED THEIR CERTIFICATES FROM THE HEAD OF THE GHANA NAVY, COMMODORE P.F. QUAYE.

THE PRINCIPAL OF THE COLLEGE, CAPTAIN A.H. PIERCE, IN AN ADDRESS BEFORE THE PRESENTATION, SAID THAT THE ACADEMIC YEAR HAD BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL. HE SAID THAT THE COLLEGE HAD BEEN PERMITTED TO TAKE THE SECOND MATE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IN GHANA, UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION. CAPTAIN PIERCE DESCRIBED THIS AS A GREAT STEP FORWARD IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING THE COLLEGE A COMPLETE AND FULLY COMPREHENSIVE NAUTICAL COLLEGE.

PRESENTING THE CERTIFICATES AND PRIZES, COMMODORE QUAYE CONGRATULATED THE STUDENTS ON BEING ABLE TO LEARN IN THE PREVAILING SURROUNDINGS. HE SAID THAT THE GOVERNMENT WAS TRYING TO PROVIDE SUITABLE ACCOMMODATION WITH AMENITIES FOR THE COLLEGE, SO THAT IT WILL BECOME A FIRST CLASS NAUTICAL TRAINING ESTABLISHMENT.

COMMODORE QUAYE LATER INSPECTED A GUARD OF HONOUR, MOUNTED BY THE STUDENTS. HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE PRINCIPAL AND THE PHYSICAL TRAINING INSTRUCTOR, MR. J.A. FAMIYEH.
